Freedom Pass – Older and Disabled people
Freedom Pass is provided to give older and disabled Londoners free travel on almost all public transport in the London boroughs.
- You were 60 or older before 6 April 2010
- You turned 60 on or after 6 April 2010 and meet the new age criteria
Eligible disability:
You can also get a Freedom Pass if you:
- Are blind or partially sighted
- Profoundly or severely deaf
- Without speech
- A disability, or have suffered an injury which makes walking more difficult
- On High Rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance
- No arms or have a long-term loss of the use of both arms
- A learning disability
- Been refused a licence on the grounds of your disability

Hillingdon Hospital & Mount Vernon Volunteer Drivers Scheme
The scheme enables older and disabled people to get to appointments at either hospitals using an alternative door-to-door transport service.
For your first appointment, the trip will need to be authorised by your local doctor. The GP’s surgery will need to contact the transport office at Hillingdon Hospital.
Blue Badge Scheme
The Blue Badge scheme provides parking concessions for disabled people with a mobility impairment. The scheme is available to disabled people whether they are a driver or passenger. A Blue Badge holder can typically park close to their destination.

Dial-a-Ride – Transport for London
Is a door to door service for older and disabled people who find it difficult or impossible to use conventional public transport. The service is prebooked and can be used for most journeys, including shopping, visiting friends or social events.

London Taxicard Scheme and Capital Call
The scheme allows London residents with a mobility impairment which prevents them from using buses or trains to travel in licensed London Black Cabs or participating minicabs at reduced rates.

Minicabs Firms in the London Borough of Hillingdon
Very few minicab firms have vehicles that allow a wheelchair user to travel in their wheelchair. However, if a passenger is able to transfer from their wheelchair to a car seat and their wheelchair can be folded, most firms will normally assist.
Tell them if you require assistance when making the booking and a suitable vehicle will be sent with a driver can assist.

London Underground
A majority of the London Borough of Hillingdon is covered by the Underground. Many of the Tube and DLR stations have step-free access from the street and information about the step and gap between the platform and the train. Tube and National Rail services have produce a range of guides in alternative formats to help you plan and make journeys. All of the guides can be obtained free of charge.

Disabled Person Railcard
If you have a disability that makes travelling by train difficult you might qualify for the Disabled Person Railcard. The Railcard allows you and one adult ravelling with you, 1/3 off most rail fares throughout Great Britain.
You can use the Railcard at any time. Some tickets are subject to availability and may have time restrictions, so to avoid any confusion please check before booking.

Hayes & Harlington and West Drayton Stations are NOT accessible to wheelchair users. If you wish to travel to or from either of these stations contact the First Great Western Trains Assisted Travel Line and they will arrange and pay for a taxi to Slough Station which offers level access to all platforms.

Hillingdon Community Transport (HCT)
Hillingdon Community Transport offers a fully accessible, affordable, minibus transport service for disabled individuals, as well as to voluntary groups and organisations that provide services that help improve the quality of life for all residents in the borough of Hillingdon. HCT is a voluntary organisation and registered charity part funded by the London Borough of Hillingdon

Hillingdon Shopmobility
In order to use the service you have to be registered as a customer so that you are covered by their insurance policy. All customers are asked to pay an annual registration fee of £12, which will contribute towards insurance costs but they do ask customers to make a donation to the maintenance and repair fund when they borrow equipment. You will be asked to produce a document showing both your name and address. Equipment is only available Mon-Sat 9.15am until 4.45pm
