Training for Carers

Hillingdon Carers have developed a rolling programme of training sessions to support carers in their caring role.

Moving and Handling

Reminds you how to look after your own back as well as offering ideas for the safe manoeuvre and positioning of those that you care for.

Being a Carer

Is particularly useful for people that are new to caring, providing information around carer’s assessments, benefit entitlements and services that are available in the London Borough of Hillingdon.

First Aid Awareness

Takes you through the key stages of first aid procedures to help you assist someone who has been injured or appears unconscious.

These training sessions will be held in Uxbridge from 10.15am – 12.30pm

Wheelchair Training

This is available to anyone who uses  a manual or powered wheelchair.
Training will contain safety issues, loading into cars, ramps for the house, repairs and insurance.
This training session will take place at Hillingdon Centre for Independent Living (HCIL), Judge Health Lane, Hayes
Between 10.00am – 12.00 noon

Life Skills Training

Do you struggle with day to day chores? Maybe your partner dealt with certain matters and you now need support.
Hillingdon Carers can help you with skills  such as ironing certain articles or learning to sew on a button! , best way of putting on a duvet cover, basic cooking skills to using a microwave , controlling financial difficulties, basic car maintenance and tuning the tv into digital to reading the meters.

Life Story Book

Would you like to attend a workshop to create a ‘Life Story Book’ for the person you care for, especially for people suffering with dementia.

These training sessions will be held in Carers Room, Hillingdon Carers office on a monthly basis.

Be Safe – a Carers guide

e-learning from London Borough of Hillingdon

Be Safe is a great resource for carers who care for people who are elderly or vulnerable .  It gives advice on protecting anyone from fire safety, advice on preventing falls, advice on keeping distraction burglars out. You can complete the training module a section at a time and dip in and out of it as you like.  It also has downloadable resource section at the back.   This online training module is completely free of charge.
